Reading Strategies
Next week we will continue
practicing or reading strategies. We will also introduce “Turtle Talk”. This
strategy allows students to slowly sound out the word. Once the student
identifies all the sounds in the word, they can blend them together.
Math
Next week in Math we
will discuss the strategy of making ten to add. We will also move into
subtraction strategies “count back” (this strategy uses a number line) and “think
addition to subtract”.
At this point in the
year we would like students to begin mastering their Fast Facts. Students
should begin to memorize addition facts with a sum of 1-10 (ex. 2+5).
Notes
Our Halloween
festivities are scheduled for Thursday, October 31st. The children’s costume
parade will begin between 1:40-1:45 p.m. outside the school (weather
permitting). Our classroom party will begin at 2:00 p.m. Students should bring
their costumes to school that day in a bag with their name clearly marked on
it. Please try to make their costumes easy to put on over their regular
clothes. Makeup cannot be applied at school and toy weapons are not allowed.
Also, children are
not allowed to bring candy or edible treats to pass out to their classmates on
this day. The students will be having a small treat and drink in the classroom
during the party. We also have students who have various food allergies in our
class.
Thank you for your
cooperation in this matter!
