Reading Strategies
Next week we will
discuss how to “Monitor and Clarify”. When reading with your student encourage
them to stop and check to make sure they understand what they read. If they do
not understand they should reread.
We will also
introduce “Sequencing”. Encourage your student to pay attention to the order of
events. At the end of the story, discuss what happened first, second, and so
on.
Math
Next week we will begin
chapter 8. We will discuss “Data and Graphs”. The concepts in this chapter
include Sorting, Classifying and picture graphs. Chapters 8 and 9 will be a combined test on
December 18th.
Monkey of the week
Last week’s “Monkey of the week”
was Gabija! Gabija’s favorite subjects are Gym and Math. Her favorite places to
go are Disney World and Gymnastics. Congratulations to Gabija on her awesome
week!
Notes/reminders
Santa’s workshop will be held on
Wednesday, December 5th. Your student will be able to purchase
holiday items on this day. Please have your students money concealed and labeled
with their name and their teachers name.
Progress reports will be sent
home on December 7th. Your student will only receive a progress
report if they are “not meeting” in a subject area.
Our holiday party will be held on
Friday, December 21st. First grade will not be doing a student gift
exchange this year. Each teacher will be buying gifts for their class.
Winter break will begin Monday,
December 24th. There will be no school.
Have a great weekend!
