Reading Strategies
Next week we will continue practicing summarizing and evaluating. We will also be reviewing predictions and inferences. Please continue to practice these strategies at home with your student.

Math
Our Chapter 5 math test will be held on Monday, October 29th. Please review the Chapter 5 concepts with your student (adding to 12- Count on, number lines, doubles facts, near doubles facts and drawing a picture). You can use the worksheets the students completed in class for examples.  We will begin Chapter 6 (subtraction strategies to 12) on Tuesday, October 30th. The concepts we will discuss are; using a number line to count back and relating addition problems to subtraction problems (fact families).

Notes
Our Halloween festivities are scheduled for Wednesday, October 31st. The children’s costume parade will begin between 1:40-1:45 p.m. outside the school (weather permitting). Our classroom party will begin at 2:00 p.m. Students should bring their costumes to school that day in a bag with their name clearly marked on it. Please try to make their costumes easy to put on over their regular clothes. Makeup cannot be applied at school and toy weapons are not allowed.

Also, children are not allowed to bring candy or edible treats to pass out to their classmates on this day. The students will be having a small treat and drink in the classroom during the party.

Monkey of the week
Last week’s “Monkey of the week” was Anna! Anna’s favorite subject is science and her favorite food is rice. Her favorite book is “Worlds cutest 3-D kittens”. Congratulations to Anna on her awesome week!

Reminders
We will continue our exploration stations (Settling of America).

Parent teacher conferences are October 29-30th.

Reading Strategies
Next week we will continue practicing Summarizing. We will also be discussing Topic, Main Idea, Details, and how to evaluate a story. Please practice these strategies at home with your student.

Math
We will continue chapter 5 in our math series. In this chapter we will discuss new strategies for adding to 12. We will learn to start with a whole number and count on. We will also discuss adding doubles. Please continue to practice addition facts with your student.

Next week we will be practicing Summarizing. We will discuss using the characters, setting and the most important details of the story. Please practice these story elements at home with your student.

Math
We will finish chapter 4 in our math series and take our test on Tuesday. On Wednesday, we will begin chapter 5 in our math series. Chapter 5 will discuss skills for addition facts to 12. Please continue to practice these skills at home.
