Hi Parents! Welcome to Mr. Mandru’s weekly blog. Each week you will be able to click this link to find information for the upcoming week.

Reading Strategies
-     “Eagle eye” (using pictures to help sound out a word)
-     “Skippy Scott” (Skip over unknown words, then come back to them)
-     “Lips the fish” (look at the first letter of the word, Get your lips ready to make the letters sound)
-     “Stretchy snake” (stretch out the sounds of the word)
-     “Elephant Ears” (Listen to the word. Does it sound right?)
-     “Turtle talk” (Sound out the word slowly. Blend the sounds together.)

Math
We will continue our unit on addition and subtraction to 12. This would be a good time to start practicing math facts with your student (ex 1+2, 3+5). We will begin to assess Math fact fluency in the coming weeks.

Homework-Purple folder

There will be a math sheet for homework every night. There will also be a reading sheet in your student’s folder. Please write down the title of a book that your student read. They do not need to finish the book.

Exploration stations

 “Settling of America”.

IPADS

In school- We are using the apps Raz-kids, Nearpod, Xtramath and Dictionary for kids. These apps are assisting students with their reading and comprehension skills. Please feel free to use these at home.
(There have been a few problems with Starfall and Spelling city. We are currently trying to solve some of the issues. If they are working for you, please continue to use them.)
At home
-     Chargers should remain at home until otherwise instructed.
-     Ipads should be returned in their ziplock bag daily.
-     Please have your student charge their Ipads the night before school.

This is a pilot year. Therefore, there will be some problems and kinks we need to work out. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know. I will do my best to help!

-     With the cold weather on its way, please make sure your child has a jacket to wear outside.

-     This week’s “Monkey of the Week” was Emily. Emily had a great week being our classroom leader. Congratulations to Emily for an awesome week!

-     Thank you to all the parents who came for conferences. I truly appreciate you taking time out of your schedules to meet with me. I think we had some good conversations. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

-     MONDAY, NOV. 3rd - NO school

-     TUESDAY, NOV. 4th - NO school (Election Day/Teacher Institute Day)

(If you did not receive tickets, you may pay at the door)
-      Classroom Halloween party- Friday October 31st
Our Halloween festivities are scheduled for Friday, October 31st. The children’s costume parade will begin between 1:40-1:45 p.m. outside the school (weather permitting). Our classroom party will begin at 2:00 p.m. Students should bring their costumes to school that day in a bag with their name clearly marked on it. Please try to make their costumes easy to put on over their regular clothes. Makeup cannot be applied at school and toy weapons are not allowed.

Starting next week, we will begin to incorporate IPads into some of our daily work.
 The IPads will switch between classrooms on a monthly basis. As students become more comfortable with their own IPad, we will begin to send them home.
